When deeds are in the darkness

We’re closely following the story of alleged mortgage fraudster John Hemphill , who supposedly posed as a property owner and created fictitious deeds by duping the folks at the clerk’s office into believing he was some kind of government agent and thus allowing him to transfer the properties to his “Chicago Receivers and Caretakers Association.

Alas– he transferred himself a bunch of properties owned by folks like us.

This can only happen, of course, because deeds are generally kept like a secret. They aren’t publicized, so you would never know that someone stole your house until it is too late.

This site launched last year, but see how easy it can be to track this stuff if there were more sites like this?

Consider– if you were one of these people and you had a google alert on your name or address, you would have caught it immediately.
